Joan Collins wurde für die Rolle der Ruth Van Rydock gecastet.
"It has always been Joan's dream to star in Miss Marple... She is one of the main characters and has some great scenes," a source is quoted as saying.
Other stars set to appear in the new ITV series include Martine McCutcheon, The Bourne Supremacy actor Brian Cox and Wedding Crashers star Jane Seymour.
ITV has brought in a stellar cast for the new series, which includes Martine McCutcheon as a chamber maid, Shameless actress Maxine Peake and Emmy award-winner Bryan Cox. Singers Mica Paris and Lisa Stansfield, and British stars Juliet Stevenson and Jane Seymour, also appear.
‘Joan was desperate to be able to film Miss Marple and although it’s a very packed schedule she is filming it in between her one-woman show,’ added the source.
‘It’s the first time she’s done a murder-mystery and she’s really enjoying it. She’d actually love to play Marple herself one day and has told the producers. She’s been told to keep the plot a secret, because the whole point of Miss Marple is whodunnit.’
A spokesman for the star said last night: ‘Joan is appearing in Miss Marple. She is delighted to be doing a guest slot.’
An ITV spokesman said: ‘We are thrilled to have Joan Collins. We have a great cast.’
