The golden age of radio will be re-created on stage at Windsor Theatre Royal this week and next in a star-studded tribute to Agatha Christie.
Three plays by the queen of crime fiction will be performed in the style of the original broadcasts in Murder On Air, for which the set will be a mock-up recording studio.
This unusual event is in aid of the theatre’s restoration fund and will be seen only at Windsor.
Each performance of the trilogy of plays – The Yellow Iris, which features Hercule Poirot, Personal Call and Butter Is A Lordly Dish, is different with a rotating cast of stars and full supporting company.
Kicking off the crimefest tomorrow and Wednesday are Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove from TV’s Judge John Deed.
The Thursday and Friday performances teams Glynis Barber, of Dempsey And Makepeace fame, with Roy Marsden, who played Inspector Dalgleish in the P.D. James adaptations for television.
The Saturday pairing is Hugh Fraser – Captain Hastings to David Suchet’s TV Poirot – with real-life partner Belinda Lang.
Next week’s star line-up includes Susan George, Simon Shepherd, Geraldine James, Nicky Henson and real-life husband and wife Martin Jarvis and Rosalind Ayres.
Incidentally, Marsden stars in John Godber’s play Happy Jack at Windsor in June and the Agatha Christie Theatre Company performs at the venue in September with her classic whodunnit, And Then There Were None.
- Murder On Air runs until Saturday, May 3 – for tickets call 01753 853888.
