Actor David Suchet will jet off to Morocco to shoot
the last of four new Poirot murder mysteries to be screened on ITV1 later this year.
Agatha Christie’s murder mystery Appointment with Death, first published in 1938, is set in Syria but will be filmed on location in Casablanca and El Jadida, as well in Britain.
Suchet’s sleuth will be joined on screen by an impressive cast boasting Tim Curry, John Hannah, Cheryl Campbell, Tom Riley, Emma Cunniffe and Elizabeth McGovern, as well as debutant actress
Zoe Boyle.
Steve Frost, ITV’s new head of continuing series, says: "Poirot is one of ITV’s most valued brands and Appointment with Death is a classic Agatha Christie tale of suspense, murder and intrigue. With a great supporting cast and amazing Moroccan locations the film promises to be a lavish and exciting addition to the Poirot stable."
While holidaying in Jerusalem, Belgian detective Hercule Poirot learns of an archaeological expedition aiming to unearth the head of John the Baptist in Syria, led by eccentric aristocrat Lord Greville Boynton and his son Leonard. Drawn to the dig, Poirot is joined by Boynton’s second wife - the dominating, fabulously wealthy American-born
Lady Boynton.
However, the impending find is overshadowed by the discovery of Lady Boyton’s body and revelations about her fortune. Poirot is commissioned to track down the killer and is blessed by a wealth of suspects. Only one question remains: who dunnit?
Chorion Ltd, which owns the majority share of the Poirot copyright, is delighted by the announcement. Sokesperson Phil Clymer adds: “"We are thrilled that ITV are continuing to show support and enthusiasm for the world's most famous detective. We share an ambition with David Suchet that we will complete the filming of the entire Poirot library over the next few years, and that ITV will continue to be our partners
in crime."
Appointment With Death is directed by Ashley Pearce (Afterlife, The Vice), adapted by Guy
Andrews (Lost in Austen, Prime Suspect) and
the series producer is Karen Thrussell (Agatha Christie’s Marple).
