Poirot comes to Dover

DOVER will feature in the new production of household British television detective series Hercule Poirot , the Dover Express can exclusively reveal.

Actor David Suchet, 63, who plays the Belgium super sleuth, films scenes here on what is the 21st anniversary of the hit ITV1 programme.

Details of the latest film, called The Clocks, are being closely guarded by the broadcaster, which is yet to make an official announcement. The show is expected to be aired on television next year.

Filming got underway on Monday and will last for three weeks across several UK locations.

The ITV production crew has earmarked two to three days filming in Dover, which will include scenes in picturesque St Margaret's Bay. However they are keen not to advertise the precise spots to avoid a mass public spectacle.

An ITV spokesman said: "This is a period piece so you can imagine that it might look quite odd if we were to shoot and the public started appearing in the background."

She said the Dover setting will play a role in the plot, which is set between the First World War and Second World War.

Scenes will depict Dover Castle's secret wartime tunnels, which played a key role in the 1939-1945 conflict. These are likely to be filmed in-house at ITV studios.

Elaborating on the story, the spokesman added: "It's a double mystery. It's about someone looking for a German spy. It all kicks off from there. There are seemingly unconnected events which are all connected."

As part of the pre-production ITV approached St Margaret's Parish Council over whether its trucks would fit in the narrow roads leading to the Bay and where to park.

Parish council clerk Jane Cook said: "They rang us out of courtesy to let us know they would be filming in St Margaret's Bay. We told them there would be no chance of getting their trucks down to the Bay. Our vice chairman David Hart said he would speak to the South Foreland Valley Roads Association to see of they could park in St Margaret's Road."

Cllr Hart said the use of a Dover location is a real boon for the entire district.

He said: "It's nice to see St Margaret's Bay feature as a location. We look forward to watching it. We will all wait with baited breath to see how they portray the Bay."

Nicht falsch verstehen, ich finde die Garderobe ja auch klasse. Schließlich ist alles maßgeschneidert. Aber irgendwie gab es früher mehr Variationen in den Anzügen. Den grauen Anzug trägt er jetzt schon durch drei Staffeln hindurch. Da wird sich doch wohl noch was anderes auftreiben lassen...

Danke Japp für die Dover-Berichte!

Ich sehe das genau wie Mason: Poirot ist natürlich immer noch schnieke, aber halt seit einigen Folgen überwiegend leider nur noch "gräulich"

Früher war seine Gardrobe echt abwechslungsreicher, und auch seine alte Apartmentwohnung hat mir viel besser gefallen als die neue

Cash-strapped ITV chiefs have been accused of doing their flagship detective drama Poirot “on the cheap”.

Weeks after its star David Suchet voiced concerns over the fate of the beloved Belgian sleuth, we hear cast and crew are feeling decidedly miffed about attempts to cut corners on the upcoming instalments.

“Shooting on the first film, The Clocks, is taking place in Islington even though the story is set in Dover, which is highly relevant to the plot,” an insider revealed.

“They are filming in a tiny wood in Islington near Tony Blair’s old pad and can only afford to go to Dover for a few days for the sea shots.

“There’s a general feeling of despondency because it feels as if everything’s being done on the cheap.”

Earlier this month Suchet, 63, who has starred as Agatha Christie’s pedantic protagonist for more than 20 years, spoke of his fears for the future of the much-loved drama. “Look at how many good TV programmes have been axed recently,” he said. “I hope it’s not inevitable for Poirot.”

Names including former EastEnder Phil Daniels,Jaime Winstone– daughter of actor Ray – and veteran actress Anna Massey feature in the upcoming productions.

A spokesperson for the channel refused to be drawn on the budget but confirmed filming is taking place “in several locations throughout Greater London, including studios, and three days in Dover”.

Da müssen wir uns also wohl auf einen "gräulichen" Poirot in (und womöglich "grausliche" Episode von) "The Clocks" einstellen.

Das hat man leider längst schon. Der ist doch schon seit 2006 in Planung.

Hoffentlich wird das nicht so eine Katastrophe wie der Molina-Film...

Offenbar wird der Molina-Streifen bei der Christie Company gar nicht so als "Katastrophe" gehandelt, denn er taucht - ganz erstaunlicher Weise - auch in der Filmliste der "Christie Film-Collection" auf. Miss Joan Hickson Marple hingegen nicht - quite amazing Und diese Kollektion soll "unmissable" sein

Ist sie doch auch. Ein wahrer Fan muß auch die schlimmsten Untiefen (Molina, McEwan) kennen!

Davon ist auszugehen. Und die McEwan-Marple ist sicher auch billiger zu haben als Frau Hickson. Neulich habe ich die Neuverfilmung von "Ruhe unsanft" gesehen, das war ja grauslich. Lediglich die "Gwenda"-Darstellerin war deutlich attraktiver als in der Hickson-Version.

Der Film ist eine einzige Katastrophe! Wer hat denn die Kollektion nur zusammengestellt? Da waren aber einige mit Blindheit geschlagen oder es gab mal wieder Krach wegen den Rechten der einzelnen Produktionen.

gibts denn irgendwo eine deutsche verfilmung mit mcewan? würde mich sehr interessieren. die mrs. marple-filme mit rutherford und hickson habe ich schon alle und auch die poirots mit suchet.

Also ich kenne keine deutsche Verfilmung, in welcher Geraldine McEwan mitgespielt hat.
Wäre auch sehr eigenartig

Vielleicht meinst du die engl. Miss Marple-Verfilmungen mit McEwan in dt. Synchro?
