Christie's holiday home to open to public
11 hours ago
LONDON (AFP) — The holiday home of mystery novellist Agatha Christie will open to the public for the first time at the end of the month, its curators said Tuesday.
Christie took her family to Greenway House in Devon, from 1938 to 1959, and visitors to the house will be able to see many of her and her family's personal possessions.
"The greatest compliment I have received from volunteers to whom I have shown the house, and who have been working tirelessly with me throughout the project, is that it seems as if we have not changed anything at all," said Robyn Brown, the National Trust's property manager for Greenway.
The house was given to the National Trust in 2000, and visitors to the property have been able to walk through its woodland gardens since then, but were not allowed into the house because Christie's daughter and son-in-law Rosalind and Anthony Hicks still used it as their home.
Upon their deaths in 2004 and 2005, the house itself and the majority of its contents were passed to the National Trust.
Visitors will be able to visit the house's library, drawing room, the dining room and Christie's own bedroom.
